09.11.09 - 2009 WTC Tribute Lights. : 09.11.09 - 2009 WTC Tribute Lights. The weather wasn't the greatest, however there was time to get in some shots. The cloud's covering the Tribute in Lights was a unique feature to this 2009 photo shoot. I would like to personally thank all those that participated in this years event. It seems like every year gets bigger and bigger. Hope to make the 2010 photo shoot the BEST EVER!!! Also,,,this event would not be possible without the array of talented photographer's that attended. Detective Marc Anthony DiNardo Memorial T - Shirt : It's with deep sadness that we announce that our beloved Brother Officer Marc Anthony DiNardo age 37 succumbed to his devastating injuries suffered at the hands of two murderers on July 16,2009. Our fallen Hero paid the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty leaving behind a devoted wife and his three small children, Gwendolyn, age 4, Marc Anthony II, age 3, Ella age 1. Marc was a second generation Police Officer following in his fathers footsteps. He was dedicated and passionate about the profession he loved, He was proud to wear the uniform, work in the Emergency Services Unit and serve the residents of Jersey City with great honor. This is a grim reminder of the dangers that all Officers face when they walk out of their homes and go to work. 05.19.09 - Metro Urban Search and Rescue (USAR) Strike Team - Drill : The Metro USAR Strike Team is made up of nine fire departments from Bayonne, Elizabeth, Hackensack, Hoboken, Jersey City, Newark, Paterson, Morristown as well as the five-municipality North Hudson Regional Fire and Rescue Agency. Members also include New Jersey Transit and Port Authority of New York and New Jersey police officers. The team’s full complement counts approximately 500 members. The nine departments are drawn from the six counties (Bergen, Essex, Hudson, Morris, Passaic and Union) and two cities (Jersey City and Newark) participating in New Jersey’s Urban Area Security Initiative (UASI). Operated regionally with oversight from the State Office of Homeland Security and Preparedness, the UASI program is federally funded by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and designed to help protect the country’s urban areas most prone to potential terrorist attack. The below pictures are from a Drill that was located behind 191 Orange Street in Newark, NJ(Quarters of Res1cue, Lad1der and Special Operations Division). The training area was a creation by Newark fireman Frank Bellina, and is affectionately known as "THE BELLINA ARENA". The training grounds are certified by the State of NJ for USAR training. Frank must be commended for a job WELL DONE. Thanks to Frank, The Newark Fire Dept, and the Task Force Team for allowing me to videotape and take pictures of the drill.

04.07.09 - Signal 11- Plus additional 9 - Newark, NJ : At 07:03 hours on Tuesday, April 7th, fire dispatch transmitted Station 1448 for a reported fire located at 491 So. 17th St. Dispatch also reported that there might be children trapped in the building. Special Ops 1, who was traveling into work at the time, immediately reported heave smoke in the area. Engine 11 arrived on the scene and reported a working fire in a 2 1/2 story frame with fire on all floors. A signal 11 was transmitted for this job. Due to the partial collapse of the rear top floor, an evacuation order was transmitted. After knocking down the fire with exterior lines, an interior attack again commenced. After a search of the building there was no one found inside. It was then reported that all occupants were accounted for. An additional signal 9 was transmitted bringing an additional 2 engines and an additional ladder to the scene. There was minor extension to both exposures - 489 and 493 So. 17th St. Story and photo's provided by Greg Ocieres.

03.13.08 - Transformer fire - West Paterson, NJ : Local area businesses were without power for a brief period this afternoon when a truck traveling in front of 25 Andrews Drive caught some overhead wires and pulled down a utility pole housing a group of three power transformers. The West Paterson Fire Department responded and stood by to assure no exposure to the nearby commercial building. When PSE&G crews arrived and were able to cut power to the units, Company 1 members then proceeded to douse the flames with a bed of foam as Company 3 stood by as a FAST assignment and for an additional water supply, should the need arise. Truck 2 remained on the scene as a precaution. Police kept onlookers at a safe distance due to the high voltage wires on the ground and the dense, acrid smoke which so often contains dangerous PCB contaminants. Their were no injuries and the incident was under control in about an hour. Several agencies are investigating the truck which caused the incident and the extent of ground contamination caused by the leaking transformers. Photos and story by NJMFPA member Ron Johnson.

03.01.08 - Second Alarm - Bayonne, NJ. : At 2125 hours Bayonne Fire Dispatch transmitted a box for 20 Pulaski St. Came in as an alarm activation, Batt 1,Engine 6, 5 & Ladder Tower 5 ( riding for ladder 3 thats OOS) was on the initial box, as E-6 was arriving they saw heavy smoke coming from a 200 X 300 warehouse, Batt 1 reported heavy smoke coming from the roof on the A-B Corner and order the full box transmiited bringing Tower Ladder 2 & Engine 1 to the scene plus Enging 2 as the rit company. As companys started to open the overheads doors at the A-B corner heavy smoke was coming from the large doors as they were open. With that Deputy 1 order a 2nd alarm as he arrived bring Tower Ladder 1 and Engine 3 to scene. Sprinkler system was activated whick luckly kept the heavy fire in check in the A-B corner in an room/office area. Fire was quickly k/d but the entire warehouse was filled with smoke. As crews were overhauling & venting the warehouse they notice some of the warehouse stock in the area of fire appeared to be chemical ptoducts and cylinder tanks so Bayonne Haz-Mat was requested to scene to monitor the area and check for any type on product release. By 2300 Hours situation was under control and companys were sloely released, Jersey City Fire Department provided cover for Bayonne. Photo and Story by Bob Scollan.

03.02.08 - Plane Crash - Lincoln Park, NJ. : 03.02.08 - A flight instructor and a student pilot escaped with only minor injuries after their Cessna 172S crashed while attempting to land at the Lincoln Park Airport According to authorities, the student overshot the runway while attempting to land, and tried to regain altitude but ran out of runway and crashed into a safety cable and guard rail bordering Jacksonville Road. The impact flipped the plane over forward, but the tail became entangled in the cable and actually broke the plane in two. The plane came to rest in the middle of Jacksonville Road.
